Thelorefactory.com! Grand opening!!

Today is the grand opening of my new website, it will host the new and continuing adventures of the Super Fat Rat comics, as well as some bonus comics (coming soon!).

I will continue to update this blog of course with doodles and news of upcoming events.

I also should announce that I will be sharing an artist alley table at Hal-Con with the very talented C.Cameron. I believe we will be under the name Blot and Madsusie, so please drop by if you plan on going this year!

I still have a lot of work to do, but its ramping up to be a great year!!

Fun with textures - self profile

I haven't used my watercolour paints in years, so this was a fun little art project to do. Just splatter and scan!  Here is a link to the full resolution versions if you want to use them yourself!

Coming soon, and I'm super excited! I'm creating a short 9 page comic (starring Super Fat Rat!) as part of a comic Anthology with some fellow Canadian artists, I'll post more details as they become available.

Busy with work!

We're working on some really awesome shows right now at work, I wish I can talk about them but I can't. Not yet, but hopefully soon. I need an updated demo reel badly.

The Possession - WIP

After watching The Possession, this scene kept on popping up in my mind as being incredibly creepy, so much so that I thought it would make for a fun drawing. Those eyes!

Luckily, I was able to find a screen shot of it to use as reference online, and went from there. Still a work in progress.

Saloon Girl rough sketch

I came back from a trip to the Calgary Stampede a couple of weeks ago, and I seem to have caught the cowboy bug. Its all I can think of drawing right now!

What is this madness?

It seems like Blogger has completely changed, its madness. One day you're browsing blog feeds on the internet, the next you're dropped into a new world feeling scared and confused. I'm slowly adjusting to the change.....

The last few months have been busy at work, which no surprise, has left me with little time to work on my blog and comic. I'm desperately trying to get back into a routine again, nothing leaves you more artistically unfulfilled than skipping out on your own personal projects.

If I could make one recommendation for people starting in animation (this applies to other professions as well), get some side projects going. Draw something you like, paint, do anything. As cool as it can be to land a job in the industry, its rarely your own work, and it has a way of sapping the creative energy out of you. Doing something that you have full control over can be invigorating.

I'm posting some of the drawings I've been working on, when I get rusty I like to fall back on old characters that I've been drawing since a kid. Like Super Fat Rat and some of the Madsusie stuff.

There is only one sketch out of the whole batch that I actually liked, the theme of the evening was comics!

Back to markers!

I spend so much time drawing on the computer that it just makes my eyes tired, I missed my markers.
